Instructions for ACS Online CME Activities
Each CME activity should take either a half hour or an hour to complete. Activities comprised of more than one quiz will take longer and will be worth more credit hours.
Each Journal CME activity generally consists of the following modules:
- Abstract
- Full Text Article
- Full Text Article (pdf file)
- Quiz
The Multimedia CME activity will consists of the following:

CME activities can be accessed in several ways:
- CA Online: Table of Contents - Articles which have corresponding CME activities will display links to those activities adjacent to their titles in the table of contents.
- CA Online: Navigation Box - Articles which have corresponding CME activities will display links to those activities in their right-hand navigation boxes.
- This site: The "CME Activities" button in the navigation bar at the top of each page links you to our full listing of CME activities.
To complete a CME activity:
- Select the activity of your choice through one of the interfaces described above.
- Read the full-text article associated with the selected CME activity in its entirety or View the Multimedia in its entirety.
- After reading the article(s) or viewing the multimedia, you can access the quiz for that activity by selecting the "Quiz" link on the activity's description page.
- Complete all questions on the quiz. Select SUBMIT to process your score. Note: The system will indicate an error if any questions are left unanswered.
- If you do not achieve a passing score of 70%, you will be asked to start over. Use your browser's back button to return to the quiz page. Upon completing the omitted question(s), select the SUBMIT button again.
- Once you achieve a score 70% or better, the preferred answers for all questions will be displayed.
- After completing the quiz, please select the "Evaluate" link to evaluate the associated CME activity, or select My CME to access your CME summary page, which indicates credit earned and links to a printable copy of a CME certificate for each activity you have passed. Note:The evaluation is optional, but we would greatly appreciate your feedback in support of our analysis of CME activities.
