Purpose The mission of the continuing medical education program of the American Cancer Society is to promote continuing education in all aspects of cancer, including cancer prevention, early detection, diagnosis, treatment, rehabilitation, and palliation.
Content Areas Educational activities contain information on all aspects of cancer, including cancer causes and risk factors, interventions for cancer prevention, early detection and diagnosis, treatments of all types, and strategies for rehabilitation and palliative care. Target Audience Target audiences of the American Cancer Society CME program reflect the multidisciplinary nature of cancer control, and include medical specialists and primary care physicians in community and academic practice settings; medical residents, fellows, and students; basic biomedical science researchers; epidemiologists and public health professionals; nurses, social workers and other healthcare professionals. Type of Activities Provided The American Cancer Society CME program includes journal-based activities; multimedia activities that utilize the Internet, CD ROM, and other electronic media; and jointly sponsored conferences. Expected Results of the Program The American Cancer Society CME program is expected to enhance the knowledge and skills of physicians and other health care and cancer control professionals to increase their effectiveness in cancer prevention, early detection, diagnosis, treatment, rehabilitation, and palliative care. |
