OBJECTIVES After reading the article, Long-term Complications Following Childhood and Adolescent Cancer: Foundations for Providing Risk-based Health Care for Survivors, the learner should be able to:
Understand the importance of careful follow-up in childhood cancer survivors.
Describe the risks faced by childhood and adolescent cancer survivors who have undergone treatment with radiation therapy, chemotherapy, surgery, and/or stem cell transplantation.
Understand that the risk of late effects of treatment may be influenced by a multitude of other factors, such as race, gender, genetics, socioeconomic status, and lifestyle choices.
The American Cancer Society designates this educational activity for a maximum of one category 1 credit toward the AMA Physician's Recognition Award. Each physician should claim only those credits that he or she actually spent in the activity.
