LEARNING OBJECTIVES: Expanding Role of the Medical Oncologist in the Management of Head and Neck Cancer

After completing this activity, the learner should be able to:

•  Discuss the indications for chemotherapy in the treatment of locoregionally advanced, resectable squamous cell carcinoma of the head and neck (SCCHN).
•  Discuss the indications for chemotherapy in the treatment of unresectable SCCHN.
•  Describe recent clinical research findings concerning the use of targeted agents, such as epidermal growth factor receptor (EGFR) antagonists, in the treatment of patients with both locoregionally advanced and recurrent/metastatic SCCHN.

The ACS designates this educational activity for a maximum of one AMA PRA Category 1 Credit^TM. Physicians should only claim credit commensurate with the extent of their participation in the activity.
