LEARNING OBJECTIVES: Expanding Role of the Medical Oncologist in the Management of Head and Neck Cancer

After completing this activity, the learner should be able to:

•  Discuss the indications for chemotherapy in the treatment of locoregionally advanced, resectable squamous cell carcinoma of the head and neck (SCCHN).
•  Discuss the indications for chemotherapy in the treatment of unresectable SCCHN.
•  Describe recent clinical research findings concerning the use of targeted agents, such as epidermal growth factor receptor (EGFR) antagonists, in the treatment of patients with both locoregionally advanced and recurrent/metastatic SCCHN.

The ACS designates this educational activity for a maximum of one AMA PRA Category 1 CreditTM. Physicians should only claim credit commensurate with the extent of their participation in the activity.

This activity is approved for 1 AAFP Prescribed credit. Credit may be claimed for 2 years from the date of this issue. The physician should claim only those hours of credit that he or she actually spent in the educational activity. The online quiz must be completed by January 1, 2010.
