LEARNING OBJECTIVES: Cervical Cancer Screening Rates in the United States and the Potential Impact of Implementation of Screening Guidelines

After completing this activity, the learner should be able to:

•  Discuss the extent to which cervical screening practice in the United States departs from current evidence-based guidelines.
•  Explain how adherence to specific recommendations by clinicians might influence the number of Pap tests performed.
•  Discuss the potential influence of human papillomavirus (HPV) vaccination on Pap testing in the short term and long term.

The ACS designates this educational activity for a maximum of .5 category 1 credit toward the AMA Physician’s Recognition Award.
