OBJECTIVES After reading the article, Aromatase Inhibitors for Postmenopausal Patients with Early Stage Breast Cancer, the learner should be able to:
Identify the different types of hormonal therapies available for use against breast cancer and their mechanisms of action.
Understand the rationale for using tamoxifen and aromatase inhibitors in advanced breast cancer.
Discuss the evidence supporting the use of various aromatase inhibitors as adjuvant therapy either after, or instead of, tamoxifen.
Understand the differences in the side effect profiles between tamoxifen and the aromatase inhibitors, and how these might affect the choice of which to use in the adjuvant setting.
The ACS designates this educational activity for a maximum of one category 1 credit toward the AMA Physician's Recognition Award.
This activity is approved for one AAFP Prescribed credit. Credit may be claimed for 1 year from the date of this issue. The physician should claim only those hours of credit that he or she actually spent in the educational activity. This quiz must be submitted online by May 1, 2006.
