OBJECTIVES After reading the article, Integrative Oncology: Complementary Therapies for Pain, Anxiety and Mood Disturbance, the learner should be able to:
Describe the potential role of complementary therapies in treating pain, anxiety, and mood disturbances related to cancer or its treatment.
Understand the specific situations in which complementary therapies might be of use, and identify the therapies that have evidence to support their use in these situations.
Discuss the limited role of dietary supplements in treating pain and mood disturbances, as well as the potential problems with their use.
The American Cancer Society designates this educational activity for a maximum of one-half category 1 credit toward the AMA Physician's Recognition Award. This activity is not approved by AAFP for prescribed credit hours. It does quality for .5 Elective credit. AAFP members may obtain AAFP CME credit for this article by contacting CME Records at AAFP.
