OBJECTIVES After reading the article, Identifying and Testing for Hereditary Susceptibility to Common Cancers, the learner should be able to:
Identify and advise patients who may be at increased risk for a hereditary cancer syndrome, and describe the process of genetic counseling and testing to these patients.
Understand the most common genetic syndromes associated with breast and colorectal cancer, how risk is assessed for these syndromes, and what risk reduction options are available for them.
The American Cancer Society designates this educational activity for a maximum of one-half category 1 credit toward the AMA Physician's Recognition Award. Each physician should claim only those credits that he or she actually spent in the activity.
