OBJECTIVES After reading the article, Understanding Cancer Clusters, the learner should be able to:
Describe the criteria used to define a cancer cluster and understand the differences in perceptions of clusters between public health workers and the general public.
Identify the steps involved in investigating a cancer cluster.
Understand the complexities of investigating cancer clusters in a community setting.
Discuss the potential role physicians can play in educating people about the limitations of cancer cluster investigations.
The American Cancer Society designates this educational activity for a maximum of one-half category 1 credit toward the AMA Physician's Recognition Award. Each physician should claim only those credits that he or she actually spent in the activity.
