OBJECTIVES After reading the article, Cancer Disparities by Race/Ethnicity and Socioeconomic Status, the learner should be able to:

•  Understand the differences in cancer incidence, mortality, and survival in relation to race/ethnicity, education, and income level.

•  Understand the influence of race/ethnicity, education, and income level on prevention/early detection, stage at diagnosis, and treatment.

•  Describe some of the national programs and organizations with roles in reducing cancer disparities.

The American Cancer Society designates this educational activity for a maximum of one-half category 1 credit toward the AMA Physician's Recognition Award. Each physician should claim only those credits that he or she actually spent in the activity.
