OBJECTIVES After reading the article, Cancer Statistics, 2004, the learner should be able to:

• Discuss recent trends in US cancer incidence and mortality rates.

• Identify racial/ethnic and gender differences in incidence and mortality rates in general and for selected cancers.

• Understand the key statistics relating to cancer among children.
