OBJECTIVESAfter reading the article, Cancer Statistics for Hispanics, 2003, the learner should be able to:
Understand the differences between Hispanics and non-Hispanic whites in incidence and mortality rates for cancer in general and for specific cancer sites.
Discuss the trends seen in these incidence and mortality rates for Hispanics during the 1990s.
Describe the behavioral and social risk factors, including the use of screening tests, that affect the rates of various cancers among Hispanics.
The American Cancer Society designates this educational activity for a maximum of one-half category 1 credit toward the AMA Physicians Recognition Award. Each physician should claim only those credits that he or she actually spent in the activity.
