OBJECTIVES After reading the article, The Difficult Problem of Acute Myeloid Leukemia in the Older Adult, the learner should be able to:

•   Understand the differences between acute myeloid leukemia (AML) in older adults and younger patients.

•   Describe the current induction, post-remission, and supportive care treatment options for older adults with AML and the evidence supporting their use.

•   Discuss some of the approaches now under investigation to treat AML in older adults.

The American Cancer Society designates this educational activity for a maximum of one half-hour of category 1 credit toward the AMA Physician's Recognition Award. Each physician should claim only those credits that he or she actually spent in the activity.
