OBJECTIVES After reading the article, American Cancer Society Guideline for the Early Detection of Cervical Neoplasia and Cancer, the learner should be able to:

•   Describe and implement the recommendations with regard to starting and discontinuing screening, and the appropriate screening interval.

•   Identify and discuss new screening technologies and recommendations for their use.

•   Describe the current recommendation concerning screening after hysterectomy.

•   Discuss the rationale and evidence upon which these recommendations are based.

The American Cancer Society designates this educational activity for a maximum of one hour of category 1 credit toward the AMA Physician's Recognition Award. Each physician should claim only those credits that he or she actually spent in the activity.
