OBJECTIVES After reading the article, American Cancer Society Guidelines for Breast Cancer Screening: Update, 2003, the learner should be able to:
• Describe and implement the updated recommendations for breast cancer screening, including mammography, clinical breast examination, and breast self-examination.
• Understand the rationale and evidence supporting these recommendations.
• Identify the benefits, limitations, and potential harms associated with breast cancer screening.
• Understand the current status of new technologies for breast cancer screening.
The American Cancer Society designates this educational activity for a maximum of one hour of category 1 credit toward the AMA Physician's Recognition Award. Each physician should claim only those credits that he or she actually spent in the activity.
