OBJECTIVES After reading the article, Prevention and Early Detection Clinical Trials: Opportunities for Primary Care Providers and Their Patients, the learner should be able to:
• Understand the importance of large, well-designed prevention and early detection clinical trials.
• Describe the possible benefits and risks, as well as the barriers, to participation in prevention and early detection trials.
• Describe the entry requirements for several of the most prominent prevention and early detection trials now underway, and identify people who might be eligible to participate in such trials.
The American Cancer Society designates this educational activity for a maximum of one-half hour of category 1 credit toward the AMA Physician's Recognition Award. Each physician should claim only those credits that he or she actually spent in the activity.
