OBJECTIVES After reading the article, Clinical Research by Community Oncologists, the learner should be able to:

•   Identify the opportunities and challenges facing community oncologists conducting clinical research.

•   Understand the requirements for starting and maintaining a community based clinical research program.

•   Begin a dialogue with a cancer patient regarding possible participation in a clinical trial.

The American Cancer Society designates this educational activity for a maximum of one-half hour of category 1 credit toward the AMA Physician's Recognition Award. Each physician should claim only those credits that he or she actually spent in the activity.
