OBJECTIVES After reading the article, American Cancer Society Guidelines for the Early Detection of Cancer, the learner should be able to:
• Understand the scientific basis of the ACS guidelines for early detection of cancer.
• Identify patients at average, increased, and high risk of various cancers, and provide guidance about appropriate early detection tests and principles.
• Discuss cancer detection technologies with patients, including the benefits and limitations of tests and treatment options, and provide guidance regarding individual testing decisions.
The American Cancer Society designates this educational activity for a maximum of one category 1 credit toward the AMA Physician's Recognition Award. Each physician should claim only those credits that he or she actually spent in the activity.
